At the plan announcement event, there were 64 alumni of PIDC’s Navy Yard Skills Initiative (NYSI) including two Philly Shipyard employees -- Matt Cabrera and Dustin Burton. Cabrera spoke at the event sharing his testament to the program.
The Empire State VI – current training vessel for SUNY Maritime College – made its first stop on what will be its final “summer at sea” term before it is replaced with NSMV 1 (Empire State VII) in 2023. Philly Shipyard, Inc. (PSI) celebrated the promotion of Apprenticeship Cohort #4 from Weld School to the active Production line, marking the completion of the initial 12-week training period.
Alongside officials from the City of Philadelphia and PIDC, Reps. Hoyer and Scanlon toured the Navy Yard, met with representatives from two key employers — Philly Shipyard, Inc. and Iovance Biotherapeutics, and discussed ongoing federal investments at the Navy Yard.
