At the Charles W. Jones Memorial Training Academy, Philly Shipyard Apprenticeship Cohort #7 concluded its 12-week Weld School program on January 26. The training for each apprentice began on October 31 and the cohort is set to complete the three-year apprenticeship program in October 2025.
This group will now venture into the active Production environment for the remainder of the program. This is the seventh cohort to finish Weld School since the PSI Apprenticeship Program was reestablished in May 2021.
Additionally, Prentis Bey, Jacob Hutter, Dylan McTammney, Daniel Rupell, and A.J. Vogel have had outstanding attendance since the beginning of the program. We are thrilled to report that 43% of this class had perfect attendance since arriving at the Weld School. These trainees have demonstrated their commitment to building a career in a formidable setting with remarkable skill.
“Cohort #7 was definitely an impressive class and I’m proud to see them graduate weld school and bring their skills on the Production line,” said Megan Heileman, Training Manager. “I can only hope that our incoming class can bring the same enthusiasm and curiosity for learning the skilled trades.”
Throughout the 12-week program, almost all of the apprentices earned three of four American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) certifications. Furthermore, each Weld School graduate has passed exams to get accredited for their Outfitting and Shipbuilding certifications.
The Spring 2023 Apprenticeship Application Window is currently open with a deadline of Friday, March 3. Those accepted into the program will begin on May 1.
